My father was looking around for a new desk chair on the Internet yesterday. I was looking with him as I need a chair myself. I found it very interesting how many chair mats there were for sale. I have heard of them but I thought they were something that were normally used in offices and I was surprised that there were so many now aimed at the domestic market. I suppose that many people now have home offices and some people, myself included, have a desk in their sitting room. This means that they may need to have a chair mat to protect their carpet or to stop the chair running too easily on a laminate floor. I can now see how they are probably more necessary in a domestic surrounding than in an office, as office flooring is normally planned with wheeled chairs in mind but domestic flooring is planned far more for the look than for the practicality of use. If I change my carpets I may even look at getting one for myself so that the chair wheels do not rub the carpet away.
